The Xing Yi Quan is one of the three major "internal style" of Chinese martial arts. It is characterized by the aggressive, sturdy movements, and explosive power like the features of Shanxi people when they were fighting vigorously in the battleground.
It was said that in early Qing Dynasty, when warrior Ji Jike found the Yue Fei Fist Book in an old Buddhist temple, he was so much inspired. He picked fisting over spear-fighting and that called for internal and external coordination in the full set of moves. The fist was titled "Mind and Intention Boxing" -- Xinyi Quan fitting in six aspects. When it was passed down to Li Luoneng, he emphasized the intention of the fist that took the initiative to move and which ended with the form; thus calling it Xingyi Quan, the "Form and Intention Boxing". Subsequently, Wang Xiangzhai gave up the form for intention to change it into an "Intention" type of boxing, Yi Quan.
