Veramente un bel libro, ecco alcune frasi di Sagawa sensei ripescate al volo:
Just practicing the form is no use. You must build your body.
The mistake that everyone makes is to assume that martial arts of the past are great and that imitating them is commendable. Back in the past, things like karate and boxing did not exist, so event in Dayto-ryu there were no techniques specifically to fight those forms. Today, you must find way to counter the moves of these and other martial arts.
It’s commendable to preserve what’s good about the old ways. You must, however, discard what’s ineffective and develop you own techniques. Otherwise, there is no evolution, no progress. Without using your own ingenuity, you can’t coax out that witch is truly excellent. To surpass other requires that you put in an effort many time greater. You can’t ever hope to outshine others if you do the same thing everyone else is doing.
You hear stories about people secluding themselves on a mountaintop to train in martial arts. That’s fruitless without studying how to move against human beings. Animal and people are different. It doesn’t do you any good to imitate animals. You must study and analyze with human anatomy in mind.
di cui vi risparmio la mia pessima traduzione, tanto è un inglese semplice.
Nel libro un sacco di altre citazioni sorprendenti e interessanti, devo rivedere la mia idea di "tradizionale".
